Puerto Verde magnesium sulphate is a mineral powder fertiliser that provides magnesium, an essential nutrient for photosynthesis and plant development. It is used to correct magnesium deficiencies in orchards, gardens, greenhouses and farms, improving leaf colour, flowering and crop yields. It is 100% mineral, with no additives and dissolves easily in irrigation water.
What is magnesium sulphate and what is it used for in agriculture?
Magnesium is the central atom in chlorophyll, the molecule that enables plants to photosynthesise. When the soil or growing medium does not provide enough magnesium, plants cannot produce chlorophyll normally, and visible deficiency symptoms appear, especially on older leaves. Magnesium sulphate quickly corrects this deficiency because it is highly soluble in water and easily absorbed by the plant roots.
How to tell if your crop needs magnesium
- Yellowing leaves between the veins, while the veins themselves remain green (interveinal chlorosis), usually starting on the older leaves
- Slow or weakened growth despite regular watering and fertilising
- Less flowering or fruiting than expected for the season
- Premature leaf drop in plants with severe deficiency
- Crops that are particularly demanding of magnesium, such as tomatoes, peppers, grapevines, citrus trees, olive trees and rose bushes
- Sandy soils or soils heavily leached by abundant irrigation, where magnesium is easily lost

How to apply magnesium sulphate step by step
- Identify the deficiency: confirm that the symptoms (yellow leaves between green veins) are due to a magnesium deficiency and not another cause, such as overwatering or underwatering.
- Dissolve the product: add the dose recommended on the label to a container of water and stir until completely dissolved. It is highly soluble and therefore dissolves easily.
- Apply to the roots: water the solution directly at the base of the plant, allowing the water to penetrate well into the growing medium or soil.
- Optional, foliar application: on some crops, it can also be applied as a spray to the leaves, diluted in water, for faster absorption in cases of visible deficiency.
- Repeat as needed: monitor the development of new leaves over the following weeks and repeat the treatment if the label or the crop's development recommends it.
